alcohol and society 17/12/2001 Link between alcohol and risky sexual behaviour According to a research of the American Centers for Disease Control (CDC) that was presented yesterday cheap beer contributes considerably to the spreading of sexually transmitted diseases (STD). The study compared changes in the appearance of gonorrhoea with changes in the policy of the authorities where alcohol is concerned. The study was carried out in all states between 1981 and 1995. The researchers have noticed that in the years that followed an increase of taxes of beer there was always a drop in the number of youngsters with gonorrhoea. The same phenomenon appeared when the age for consumption of alcohol had been raised, which happened in many American states in the eighties. There is a link between alcohol and risky behaviour among youngsters. It has an influence on their ability to judge things. Those persons that drink alcohol are the ones that tend to have sex without condom, with several partners or with high-risk partners, according to Harrel Cheson, a health economist of the CDC.
