SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH
alcohol and body

Moderate drinking hardly increases the risk of developing breast cancer

New epidemiological research has shown that a low to moderate consumption of alcohol hardly increases the risk of developing breast cancer among premenopausal women.
In case of low consumption of alcohol the risk increases by a factor of 0.7 (so there is no increase of the risk), in case of moderate consumption of alcohol (maximum 18 g per day) the risk increases by a factor of 1.6 (a hardly noticeable increase), whereas in case of a consumption of at least 19 g per day the risk clearly increases by a factor of 3.7. This research was carried out in Germany among 706 women up to 50 years of age with a freshly diagnosed breast cancer in comparison with a control group of 1,381 women of the same age.
