QUESTION & ANSWER

DRINK AND CHRONIC FATIGUE
Liliane

Question: is it at all possible that a person who regularly drinks too much will feel dog-tired every waking day and will nod off to sleep after a few hours of work. If so, how so?

Answer: regular excessive drinking may indeed be one of the causes of chronic fatigue. Too much alcohol gives a consoling high, but that does not last long and will often be followed by a low. Excessive alcohol consumption sends the blood sugar level all over the place and, finally, you end up exhausted and out of energy. It is clear that persistent and excessive drinking will damage the liver, which will be embarrassed in its functions. This may be one of the causes of fatigue.

The best advice that can be given in such a serious case is: consult your family doctor. After all, there may be more than one cause for chronic fatigue.
